A seafront hotel in Brighton is to undergo a £2 million facelift.

The Hilton Brighton Metropole will be starting phase one of its refurbishment programme in January.

Hotel bosses hope it will be finished by April.

Peter Hales, area general manager for Hilton Hotels in Brighton, said: "This is great news for the Hilton Brighton Metropole and highlights the importance we place on Brighton as a destination."

The main focus of the first phase will be on enhancing 300 of the hotel's bedrooms and bathrooms.

Public areas including the foyer, Windsor Restaurant, cafe bar, car park, Queensbury Mews entrance and laundry area will also be refurbished.

Architects are hoping to retain and revisit the elegance and tradition of the Victorian era in which the hotel was originally built.

New carpets, wall coverings and furniture, as well as renovated antique and reproduction lamps and wall lights, will be fitted to reflect the time when the hotel opened in 1890.

Details of the next phase of refurbishment are expected to be announced soon.
