The problem of the ineffectiveness of bus shelters mentioned on this page has arisen because in recent years many have been installed facing the wrong way with the open side fully exposed to the prevailing south-west wind and rain, with spray coming off the sea and passing traffic.

At one time all bus shelters had the closed side facing the sea, so fulfilling their purpose of providing protection from the weather.

There are still a few left facing the right way, for instance the north sides of Palmeira Square, Eaton road by George Street and Old Shoreham Road by Nevill Road.

However, if these are replaced again they will probably be installed the wrong way round.

Whoever is in charge of bus shelters seems to have forgotten the reason for them and because of their incorrect orientation, many of them are non-functioning.
