Worthing assistant boss Danny Bloor expressed satisfaction at his side's knack for grinding out results after overcoming in-form Bromley at Woodside Road.

Former Albion captain Paul Rogers scored the winner early in the second half after a scrambled effort by Tony Reid cancelled out a superb opening strike by Gavin Geddes.

Fifth placed Worthing, fresh from their fine FA Trophy replay win at Cambridge City, were always in charge and Bloor said: "We were totally dominant in the first half and Bromley were fortunate to go in level. I always felt we would win and it was a continuation of the hard work we previously put in."

A crowd of 400 saw Rebels warm up for the visit of Horsham on Tuesday with their eighth win in the last ten home games.

Bloor had special praise for former Albion defender Ross Johnson.

He said: "We've been working on Ross's fitness and he had an excellent game."

Top scorer Sam Francis should have given his side a two-goal lead on 19 minutes when he blazed a penalty over but, after Reid's untidy equaliser, Rogers settled the match by heading in a Florian Mateos cross.

Bromley seldom threatened and played the final 14 minutes with a substitute keeper in Andy Hunt after Danny Harwood was injured.

In the Combined Counties League, Withdean lost 3-2 at Merstham despite taking a third minute lead through Ryan Loversidge.

Clinton Moore netted the other goal for Withdean, who had former Albion player James Virgo making his debut.
