At 23, Will Holland is absurdly young to possess such a lustrous CV.

The two albums released under his Quantic guise have confirmed him as a king of future funk, he's an acclaimed DJ and forms one half of the Limp Twins.

But, at the Concorde 2, he presented his Quantic Soul Orchestra, whose remit is creating anew the kind of raw, filthy funk and Afrobeat Holland has previously plundered for samples.

Faithful though they generally were to the Seventies blueprint, the QSO were a study in irresistible exuberance, not mindless reverence.

They were conceived foremost as a live affair - and it shows.

This was a nine-piece party band aiming mercilessly at our hips and, within minutes, the crowd were enjoying themselves as much as the band.

Holland took something of a back seat, with Russ Porter cast as the ringmaster, an infectiously ebullient presence, body jerking to every beat, Cheshire-cat grin never leaving his face.

Alice Russell's voice crowned proceedings, especially on the cover of 4 Hero's Hold It Down.

The only complaint is that airtime constraints (the show was being broadcast live on Radio 1) meant the set was frustratingly short. Catch them in their full glory next time they're in town.
