Mark McGhee is demanding a fearless attitude from the Albion players as they attempt to return to winning ways.

McGhee launches his managerial reign on Saturday at London Road, Peterborough, a lucky ground for him in the past.

He began his Millwall career there three years ago with a 4-1 win and the Lions went on to lift the Second Division title.

"I don't know if I can top that, but the reality is Brighton are third in the League and Peterborough are fourth bottom, so on paper it certainly shouldn't be as tricky as it actually will be," McGhee said.

"If we aspire to finish in the top two or even the top six then we have got to go to somewhere like Peterborough and win. That is the way we will approach every game. My experience of this division is that you can have absolutely no fear of losing."

McGhee has his first training session with the Albion players today. The squad are staying in the East Midlands overnight tomorrow.

"It will give me an opportunity to sit down, have a meal with the players and just get to know them a little bit better," McGhee said.

"You have to get to know them as quickly as possible. We haven't got six or eight pre-season games for me to get to know the players, we've got to start winning games from Saturday.

"The team will be picked by me but with a huge amount of input from Bob (Booker). I won't make any decision at the moment contrary to the advice that he has got for me."

Barry Fry, Peterborough's ebullient owner and boss, is worried about the impact McGhee's appointment may have on his flu-ravaged side.

"Mark has been very successful over the years at Reading, Leicester, Wolves and Millwall," Fry said. "He's very experienced and I expect him to take Brighton back into the First Division.

"Having a new manager will be a big boost for them. It would have suited us if they had appointed him this time next week.

"Brighton have some very good players including Leon Knight, who is electric up front. They have also got the best centre half in the League in Danny Cullip."

Fry wants to sign goalkeeper James Pullen from Ipswich as cover for Mark Tyler, one of the few Peterborough players to have avoided the flu outbreak.

McGhee has granted Leyton Orient permission to play Albion's on-loan midfielder Dean Hammond in their FA Cup tie at Grantham on Saturday week.
