Three weeks late, but Yorick Williams' season is finally up and running.

The former Leopards, Manchester, Derby, Birmingham and Aris Thessalonika guard got back in the swing with a trio of three-pointers against Chester, then admitted: "It feels just like old times."

Williams, 28, had been strongly linked with Bears from the moment they announced they were going into the ULEB Cup.

As an England international with experience of the European game, he looked the perfect pick-up.

Three weeks into the season, that theory became a reality as he made his debut after replacing Philip Perre.

Williams said: "There was a little bit of talk about me coming here in the summer, then it dried up.

"Then I got the call and it went from there. We're in Europe and I feel I can make a contribution.

"We're a team with a lot of depth. The players respect each other's games and we're enthusiastic about each other playing.

"There's going to be a good chemistry and I think we should do well in Europe."

Williams has spent the past few weeks with family in Manchester, where he is involved in charity work with under-privileged youngsters.

He has been working out with EBL outfit Manchester Magic and has some idea of the challenge Bears will face in the ULEB Cup, not least when he returns to Greece to take on Ionikos.

Williams said: "I think we're going to be a lot quicker than some of the European teams, a lot more athletic, a lot more exciting, but time will tell.

"Greece is more of a set, controlled type of basketball with two Americans and the rest being European players.

"It's not as athletic as the English league but fundamentally a touch better.

"Crowd-wise, Greece is great. It's like a football match. You get police splitting the two sets of fans and it gets rowdy to say the least."

Williams efforts to boost Bears' three-point percentages will keep opponents in two minds in defence.

Kendrick Warren is one man who will hope to benefit.

He admitted: "Last year I was on a team (London Towers) where I had to do everything myself. This year I've got help.

"Yorick's another three-point shooter, he can run the floor, he's athletic, he's going to be good for us."
