Eastbourne Borough will not let their FA Cup exit spoil their good start to the season according to assistant manager Nick Greenwood.

Borough lost 1-0 to Conference side Stevenage in a fourth qualifying round replay at Broadhall Way on Tuesday night.

The first game finished 2-2 at Priory Lane on Saturday after Borough had let slip a two-goal lead.

A wonder goal by Steve Watson just after the hour mark gave Stevenage the £10,000 prize money and a first round proper home tie against Stockport County.

The defeat was Borough's first in ten games, a run which has left them riding high in the Dr Martens League premier division.

Greenwood said: "There are some very disappointed players after the defeat, but there is no way we will let their heads go down.

"It is important we bounce back from this and try not to dwell on it too much.

"We'll try and learn from it and, hopefully, use the experience in the league games rather than let it affect us."

Borough were restricted to long-range efforts in a first half mainly dominated by Stevenage.

Former Albion pair Stuart Tuck and Scott Ramsay both tried their luck with ambitious shots which failed to trouble Stevenage keeper Lionel Perez.

The home side failed to create any clearcut chances, however, and it was Borough who almost went into the break with a surprise lead.

Stuart Playford, who was part of a Hastings United side which lost 1-0 against Stevenage in the first round proper last season, met a free kick from Daren Pearce and flashed a header inches over the bar.

Stevenage came out for the second half in more determined mood and broke the deadlock on 63 minutes. A corner by Jamie Cook was only half cleared to Watson 20 yards from goal and he curled a superb shot over Lee Hook and into the top right hand corner.

Borough almost hit back four minutes later when Ramsay raced through at goal but his attempted shot from just inside the area was blocked at the last minute by Lee Flynn.

Top scorer Ramsay threatened again in the closing stages as Borough poured forward but again some last gasp defending saw Stevenage hang on.
