Your article about the appointment by the Conservatives of Nicholas Boles, who lives in London, as their parliamentary candidate for Hove (The Argus, October 24) makes me wonder why he doesn't stand for where he lives and is known.
I think every candidate should live in the constituency and have several years of residency so they know the needs of the people they wish to represent.
An MP's first duty should be to his constituents and secondly to his party and I would not vote for anyone who does not meet these requirements.
Councillors should also fulfil the same requirement and reside in the ward they wish to represent.
When the list of candidates for the postal ballot came through for the council elections, we were surprised to find about a dozen names on the list.
We only heard from the two Conservatives and did not know anything about the others.
Why stand if you do not inform people of who you are, where you live and what you stand for?
