I am worried by the prospect of a new cycle path on Worthing seafront.

One of the dictionary definitions of a promenade is "paved walkway along the seafront at a holiday resort".

A path, in my mind, is something you walk on, not ride.

I don't think the cost of such a cycle track can be justified for the small percentage of the Worthing population who will use it.

I am also concerned about the dangers of mixing pedestrians and cyclists together.

I have experienced this first-hand when recently walking along the seafront at Brighton.

I nearly walked into a cyclist who was moving at approximately 15mph.

I hate to think what damage the cyclist and myself would have suffered if we had collided.

As a child, I was always told by my parents not to cycle on the path so as not to endanger pedestrians. I still believe this is good advice today.

If cyclists believe roads are too dangerous for them, what is wrong with a brisk walk or using the bus or train?

Let's hope the council takes note and leaves the seafront to pedestrians.
