I live just off Church Road, Hove. Anyone would be forgiven for supposing that since Tesco opened on September 15, there would be an end to the building work.
This has not been the case. I have had to complain frequently to the council about work and noise at weekends.
When I raised the problem directly with Tesco, I got nowhere.
A senior environmental health officer emailed me saying it was the council's code of practice for "construction work that is not essential" to take place between 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.
But this is no good if contractors simply ignore it.
On no fewer than five occasions I complained to the council that Tesco had ignored its regulations (work took place throughout the Saturday and each of the two Sundays before the opening) but no action was taken.
If the council doesn't back up its rules why bother to have them in the first place?
This brings me to last Sunday (two weeks after the contract's supposed completion) and the sound of pneumatic drills at 5.30 in the afternoon as I found the exit to Tesco's car park being dug up.
I raised the matter directly with the workmen and they told me they were only permitted by Tesco to work outside the store's opening hours.
Since these are from 8am to 10pm six days a week and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays, it would appear that Tesco has no regard for us.
