Three quarters of workers in Sussex and the surrounding area believe they will never land their dream job.
Research by National Savings and Investments found that three out of four workers in the South-East, or 76 per cent, would choose a job that changed other people's lives for the better.
Only 31 per cent said they were in their ideal job.
Just two per cent of those quizzed ranked climbing the career ladder as the most important factor in their perfect job.
Given a choice, 16 per cent of people would stay in their current jobs, no matter how glamorous or well-paid the alternative.
