Gavin Geddes' gift early goal and an Owen Hill rocket sent Worthing dancing their way into the next round of the Cup.

A simple finish from Geddes after 15 minutes was just the foothold Rebels wanted to get past one Ryman premier side in last night's second qualifying round replay and set up a trip to another, Ford United, at the next stage.

Worthing fans love to sing about "Alan Pook's disco shoes" in praise of their flamboyant manager's choice of footwear and there is no doubt spirits at Woodside Road are sky high right now.

Not for Pook dowdy football boots or muddy tracksuit on the touchline and, while his players might not be ordering pin stripe FA Cup suits just yet, they will enjoy the challenge of the next round.

Geddes revealed: "The atmosphere in the changing room is fantastic.

"Heybridge aren't a bad side but I thought 2-0 was a fair result."

The Rebels striker was left with a straight forward finish, albeit from an angle, when accident prone goalkeeper Darren Placid and defender Lee Kersey collided trying to deal with Hill's cross.

Only a goalline clearance from Ben Carrington's pin-point 40-yard chip spared Placid more embarrassment when he tried to play sweeper.

Rebels though extended their lead on 59 minutes and Pook could claim an assist on the goal.

He ordered Hill to get on the edge of the area when a free-kick was delivered from the wing and the subsequent clearance set up Worthing's impressive midfielder for a rasping 20 yard finish.

It was not all about fancy footwork. Safe hands also came into it as Ross Standen dealt with everything that came his way, including Neil Cousins' hotly disputed penalty five minutes from time.

Placid's horrendous evening had a fitting finale when he was red-carded for impeding Sam Francis' route to goal in the closing seconds.
