I would like to thank The Argus for reporting the attack on Buffy the kitten (The Argus, September 25).

I echo Buffy's owner Susan Newell's wish for those responsible to be caught and punished.

They should also be named and shamed, no matter what age they are.

The Liberal Democrats' home affairs spokesman Simon Hughes said last week at their Brighton conference: "Offenders should be ordered to meet their victims to hammer home the consequences of their actions."

I would personally challenge those responsible to a few rounds in a boxing ring but I suspect, being the cowards they are, they would not have the courage to attack something that could fight back.

We should reflect upon our own daily behaviour towards other living beings and ask ourselves if we have created a climate of insensitivity towards animals.
