Brighton and Hove is an extremely diverse city. While some people live in the lap of luxury, others are having to cope with poor diets, bad housing and social problems.

Now health officials and the city council are trying to do something about it by achieving Healthy City status from the World Health Organisation.

It will be a long, tough job because there are many problems. The city has one of the highest death from drugs rate in England and Wales, a large number of teenage pregnancies and in parts of East Brighton about half of all adults smoke.

But at least the effort is being made. It may be a mountain to climb but the first steps are being taken.
