Sussex League sides marched through in force in the FA Vase but not all the drama was welcome on second qualifying round day.

Redhill's 2-1 win at Farnham was over-shadowed when their vice-chairman Alan Thurlbeck was rushed to hospital. Mr Thurlbeck collapsed during the game but was said to be in a stable condition yesterday.

Club secretary Neil Hoad said: "We are very worried. The football seemed secondary after that."

Luke Jones wiped out an early Farnham strike before David Graves headed the winner.

A freak goal of quality by James Gregory means Sidley replay at Ramsgate tomorrow after the Kent side grabbed a 2-2 draw after extra time.

A glancing Shae Sprea-fico header gave Sidley the lead but they were hit with a sucker punch by Mo Takalobighashi, brother of Taka-loo the WBU light-middle-weight champion, as he pounced on an under-hit back pass.

A superb run by Spreafico ended when Dave Carey's tireless work was rewarded with a close range finish to put Sidley 2-1 in the first period of extra time.

Gregory then stole the show as the second period of extra time kicked off, striking the ball from the kick-off straight over stranded Sidley keeper James Duffell's head from the halfway line.

Sidley joint-boss Andy Laskey said: "The lad will probably never do that again in his life. I don't think James Duffell really grasped what was happening and then it was in."

Rye and Iden won 1-0 in a scrappy affair at Hailsham.

Scott Price scored the only goal of the game on the hour when he headed home a Dean Chamberlain cross.

Price went close in the first half when his shot came back off the post.

Hailsham's Paul Richardson spurned his side's best opportunity when he scuf-fed his shot wide on 80 minutes.

Littlehampton were not at their best in a 3-1 home win over Oakwood, who had a man sent off.

Clinton More and Lee Barnard set Marigolds on course before Jan Miller turned home a cross to seal it.

Glen Woodburn was red-carded for pulling back Steve Tabor before James Grant hit Oaks' late consolation.

Justin Simmons and a Pat Massaro strike saw Three Bridges through 2-0 at home to Hythe Town as they improved in the second half.

Eastbourne Town will feel they should be through too after their wasteful 3-3 home draw with Wokingham.

Yemi Odubade and a Carl Harris 25-yarder put them in charge at 2-0 and Bobby Godfrey made it 3-1 before Wokingham forced extra-time.

Town boss Dave Winterton said: "We didn't take our chances and that's the third time we've done that this season."

Saltdean were also frustrated. Ian Costello rounded the keeper to put them ahead at home to Erith Town, who had Matt Fagan sent off late on.

The visitors still had time to force an 88th-minute leveller through Glen McTaggert, meaning a replay tonight (7.30pm).

Mile Oak ended a run of bad results with a 1-0 win over visiting Haywards Heath.

Jamie Harman hit a Heath post on ten minutes but Oak had to wait until the 36th minute before Archie Macabie opened the scoring from close range.

Porter went close when his 18-yard strike came back off the crossbar, but the hosts failed to add more goals despite having the majority of second half possession.

Martin Rowe converted a penalty after Tom Pickford was tripped as Steyning had a fine 1-0 win at Walton Casuals.

Boss John Bolingbroke said: "It was a superb performance. They only had one shot in 90 minutes."

There were defeats elsewhere for Sussex sides, although Eastbourne United forced extra-time against Wantage before a 2-1 defeat.

Pagham were beaten 1-0 at home yesterday by AFC Wimbledon in front of a bumper four-figure crowd.

The only goal of the game came in the 12th minute when Wimbledon defender Matt Everard headed home from a set-piece.

The visitors had Simon Bassey sent off in the second half, but Pagham, despite competing well in a scrappy game, failed to make any real impression.
