Soccer smoothie Des Lynam will join staff to celebrate the 25th anniversary of a sports centre.

The presenter will attend Arun Leisure Centre in Felpham for the annual Chairman's Charity Fun Day on Sunday.

Des will arrive at noon and be given a tour by council chairman James Walsh.

The fun day will include more than 150 customers of Arun's two leisure centres competing in a variety of sporting challenges.

Teams from the Littlehampton Swimming and Sports Centre and the Arun centre will battle it out in swimming relays, a fitness challenge, badminton, squash, junior judo, short-mat bowls, stoolball and a tug of war. Members of leisure centre staff will also play football.

The centre with the highest score will win a trophy to keep until the following year.

The sporting challenges will run from 10am until noon and will finish with a tug of war and a charity raffle.

Other attractions will include a barbecue, bouncy castle, inflatable slide, children's rides, side stalls and St John Ambulance displays, video presentations and practical demonstrations.

The Tiny Top Circus will offer free shows at 1pm and 3pm, with face painting, balloon modelling and circus product stalls providing additional attractions to younger visitors.

The leisure centre has organised a host of other events to mark its anniversary, including a jazz evening on Friday followed by a swimming gala on Saturday evening.

Coun Walsh is expecting a record number of people to turn up and cheer on their local centre.

He said: "May I pass on a big thank-you to everybody, including Arun's own staff and volunteers from St John Ambulance, who have helped to make this day possible.

"While it is important to take part and enjoy the day, I hope everyone will return to both our leisure centres on a regular basis.

"This year's event is extra special as it is coinciding with Arun Leisure Centre's 25th anniversary so I hope many customers and members of the public will want to attend at various stages of the weekend to enjoy the events that are taking place.

"My thanks must also go to the many organisations whose kind sponsorship will undoubtedly make the event a huge success.

"More than £350 has been raised with donations from Portfield Peugeot (Chichester), Park Cameras (Burgess Hill), T Jones Sports Outfitters (Littlehampton), Leisure Maintenance Services (Nottingham) and Dean Carpets (Littlehampton)."
