Large ugly yellow signs have appeared without warning in a Brighton street asking people to park next to the kerb.
People living in Howard Road object on two grounds. The first is that the signs spoil the look of the street.
But the second and more fundamental objection is that most drivers park at an angle in this wide street to provide more spaces.
With parking at a premium in this crowded part of Hanover, it makes sense to use road space efficiently.
Brighton and Hove City Council should consult local people on what kind of parking they want.
If the council finds, as it probably will, they prefer diagonal parking, it should mark out bays quickly and remove the offending signs.
