Police investigating a drive-by shooting which left a man fighting for life have found an abandoned motorcycle.

The green motorcycle was discovered just outside Sedlescombe yesterday afternoon following the incident soon after 6.30am at Cripp's Corner near Battle.

The victim remained critically ill last night following emergency surgery.

Detectives are not ruling out the possibility that the man, who was driving his new top-of-the-range silver Mercedes Benz west along Chitcombe Road, could have been the victim of a professional contract shooting.

He was at a crossroads when the gunman, apparently riding a motorcycle with an accomplice, pulled up alongside and shot him at point-blank range.

The suspects wore yellow fluorescent tops and light blue helmets.
