Hundreds of online learners and a girls' football team have been left high and dry after a learndirect centre closed down.

Crash Training Services Limited, based in New England House, Brighton, has gone into liquidation, making 31 staff redundant.

The company had about 600 people signed up for the courses it offered through the internet training scheme learndirect.

It was also signed up for a two-year deal for exclusive shirt sponsorship with Brighton and Hove Albion's under-14 girls football team Seagirls, worth £30,000.

The company was founded five years ago and provided training courses for individuals and companies including South Central Trains. Administrators David Rubin and Partners have been unable to sell the business.

Kathryn Kilmister, of David Rubin and Partners, said: "Crash Training Services Limited ceased trading in mid-July and went into creditors voluntary liquidation on July 28.

"All staff were made redundant and no sale of the business has been possible."

Learndirect has informed all users of Crash Training Services of the closure.

The company's demise has left Brighton and Hove Albion desperate for a new Seagirls kit sponsor.

Club treasurer Edward David said: "It is highly unfortunate that we have been left without a kit sponsor.

"We would be very pleased if any companies that may be able to help could get in contact."

Crash Training Services used to operate centres in Eastbourne and Telscombe but both have since become separate legal bodies.

Crash Training Limited continues to trade in The Avenue, Eastbourne, and the site in South Coast Road, Telscombe, was bought prior to liquidation and renamed Telscombe Civic Learning Centre.

Both centres are continuing to run learndirect courses.

Rewards Training, which operates from Brighton and Haywards Heath, is among other companies taking on users.

Brighton centre manager Chris Cooper said: "It is always unfortunate when students are left without the opportunity to continue their studies.

"Rewards is only too happy to help in the circumstances.

"In most cases, students can continue their existing studies but when this is not possible we can enrol them on to new courses."
