Relatives from the other side of the world flew in to celebrate Connie Strutt's 100th birthday.

Almost 50 people gathered at a party for the centenarian held at the Meridian Court sheltered housing complex in Peacehaven.

They included family from Spain, Australia and New Zealand.

Housing scheme manager Angela Peake said: "Connie asked for donations to be made to a cancer charity instead of presents but she was still given loads of flowers."

In Saltdean there was another large turnout in honour of 100-year-old Hilda Upperton.

Family and friends and staff at Arundel Park Lodge nursing home enjoyed music and dancing and a special performance of the Charleston.
