I totally agree with Mrs D Whitlock and others (Letters, August 1).
We have been fighting in Woodingdean for more than six years on identical grounds (albeit on a smaller scale) against a similar development to that proposed at Westdene.
We even beat Barrett Homes at a public inquiry in 1998 but the council prevailed as soon as "social housing" was mentioned.
We are now beginning to suffer the consequences of a ludicrous development, totally out of keeping with the surrounding properties, loss of light and I'm sure problems with tenants eventually.
I wish them every success in their fight but will not hold my breath. At least the planning committee is no longer Labour-dominated as it was when the Woodingdean proposal was approved.
I dare say they will call the new close in Woodingdean "Morley's Mount".
-Colin Orchard, Woodingdean
