Thousands of children are losing themselves in a reading maze this summer.

West Sussex County Council's Library Services reading scheme promotes the delights of reading, discovering new authors and exciting stories.

Just two weeks after the launch, youngsters are flocking into the county's 35 libraries, with long queues reported as children wait to receive their collector's wallet.

The Reading Maze is free to enter and is taking place at all the county's libraries.

David Dewdney, West Sussex Cabinet member for community development, said: "I would advise parents and children to get down to the library soon.

"Although we have enough materials for 9,000 children to take part, some libraries have already signed up more than 500 children.

"One of our smaller libraries has signed up more children in the first fortnight than took part during the whole summer holiday last year."
