Aspiring musicians, thespians and dancers can sign up for a new community performing arts programme.

Boundstone Community College in Lancing is opening its doors so adults can go back to school in September for classes in music, drama and dance.

The college has just ended its first year as the only college in West Sussex with specialist performing arts college status.

Gold-coloured newsletters entitled Performance will be delivered to every home in Lancing and Sompting about how people can get involved.

Opportunities include a community concert band for instrumentalists of all standards, a course on African music and dance and new groups for budding actors.

There are also details about the planned Boundstone Arts Festival called Lively Lancing, Swinging Sompting, to be held next summer.

It is planned that as many community arts groups as possible will take part in the event.

Linda Cole, director of Boundstone's community programme ArtXtrA said: "This is a great opportunity for all the adults in our community to learn new skills and talents, or to rediscover talents that have been resting.

"We know that our community is full of very talented people but there has never been an outlet for their gifts in the performing arts.

"Before now, it has often been the case that there are people who are involved in music, drama or dance at school and enjoy it but can't follow it as their career.

"They reluctantly leave it behind when they leave school but would really like to take it up again.

"There is something very special about being involved in creative situations - it can change you as a person and also your outlook on life.

"Our aim is to encourage anyone and everyone to take up this opportunity and get involved."
