Voice of The Argus commented on the European Union's directive for worn-out cars to be recycled.

You said the simple flaw was that the burden would fall to the last owner of a car, the poorest one, the one who drove it into the ground and the one least able to afford to pay for its disposal.

Why not do as they do in Norway? It is not in the European Union but is obliged to follow all the directives as a member of the EC.

There is a deposit on new cars of £150 which follows the vehicle and in the end takes care of its recycling cost.

This can be implemented immediately without any cost to the community as there are as many cars sold per year as there are recycled.

This means the refund can apply to cars being scrapped at the same time as the deposit scheme is introduced.
