I write regarding the grumbling from Hove residents about the horns on trains along the Brighton to the West of England line.

I have lived in our home for nearly 20 years and we back onto the railway near the entrance of the Prestonville tunnel.

Daily and nightly the trains run through this busy line going west and we had not heard of the daft complaints until new people moved in and started moaning about the horns.

What is their problem? Surely they must have done their homework when buying their properties and must have been aware of the noise?

When we purchased our home in 1984, the agents explained to us that trains ran into the Prestonville tunnel and sounded their horns through the day and the horns stopped at about 12.30am at night.

Were these facts not pointed out to the new residents and why did these people never bother to find anything out for themselves? Are they completely helpless?
