I am slightly amused at times by some of the comments made by contributors to the letters pages of The Argus.

As vice-chairman of the planning committee on Adur District Council, I have kept quiet while reading a fair bit of criticism in these very columns.

I spoke in favour of several schemes that appear to have upset some residents.

As far as the haulage company is concerned, this company is not new to the Port of Shoreham, it is simply re-locating and this is exactly what we considered in making our decision.

The site it is taking over has, until recently, been occupied by a heavy goods repair company which had far more movements in and out of

the port than the proposed company will do.

I have, in the past, attacked the port authority. I was a member of (the old) Hove Council, I fought hard against having an ashfelt plant built there and I was extremely critical of the port's decision

to allow the export of live animals so people who criticise my motives are completely wrong.

I want this "working" port to be successful and offer employment to those living in the region and, while the port expands, all those living in the area will be proud of what the current board has achieved and is achieving.

Maybe one day the Government will take notice and give the port the road it has been asking for over the many years.
