I was very interested to read the article in The Argus (August 2) about the BB gun amnesty.
It is an excellent idea and I am sure quite a few children will be tempted by the chance to soak an authority figure.
I was puzzled, however, to read that Mrs Snow's grandson, aged just six, had been sold a BB gun.
Were his parents with him? Given his age, I assume they were and that they gave permission for him to purchase it. In that case, is the shopkeeper then at fault, or the parents?
Just because a BB gun is the latest craze doesn't mean that parents have a duty to buy one. If the parents were not present, then surely the shopkeeper should expect a visit from the police.
Parents have a responsibility to be aware of the things their children are playing with and to take action if necessary.
