Two years ago, my Brighton and Hove bus fare went up from 80p to £1 under the justification the driver would be able to process passengers more quickly, and there was much crowing about speeded up boarding times.

Now it has gone up from £1 to £1.20, once again well above inflation and meaning a total price hike of 50 per cent over those two years.

I wonder if I am right, however, in imagining there would be no talk of slowed-down boarding times and drivers having to fiddle with small change?
