A bullying doctor who humiliated women with rude comments about their sex lives escaped with a reprimand from the GMC.

Dr Faiz Ur Rehman, 63, made the comments during physical examinations and told one new mother to "lie back and think of England" when she complained it was too painful to have sex with her husband.

The married father of six ignored the protests of two other women by insisting on internal examinations and breast checks at his Norfolk Square surgery in Aldwick Road, Bognor Regis.

The conduct committee of the General Medical Council found the doctor guilty of serious professional misconduct for his behaviour towards all four patients.

Chairman Professor Ken Hobbs said: "We accept there is no suggestion that there was any sexual or improper motive in your examination of these patients.

"However you did not consider the feelings or views of your patients when those considerations were paramount.

"Although doctors may sometimes need to persuade a patient to agree to undergo an examination, the doctor must ultimately respect the patient's wishes.

"Your approach to the intimate examinations and breast examinations was inconsiderate, inappropriate and unprofessional."

The committee heard Dr Rehman, of Marshall Avenue, Bognor, has been retraining and working under supervision since a serious illness in 2000.

Professor Hobbs told him: "You are to be congratulated on this exceptional transformation."
