A railway engine called The Royal Alex - and once named after the Argus - has ended its days raising money for the children's hospital it was named after.
The locomotive was scrapped last year but not before Sussex enthusiasts decided there was fund-raising potential in the famous badge.
Members of the South Downs Light Railway Society contacted the auctioneers selling both nameplates, who agreed to help the hospital.
The sale raised £3,953 for the Brighton children's hospital, which has now been handed over and will be used to replace curtains around beds in wards.
Society secretary Chris English said: "My grandchildren have been in there and it seemed like a very worthwhile cause."
The Royal Alex, which was often seen hauling Pullman coaches, was well known to rail enthusiasts.
The electro-diesel locomotive had earlier been called Brighton Evening Argus but nobody is sure what happened to those plates.
The Royal Alex plates went to an unknown buyer.
