Enigmatic singer-songwriter Suzie Ungerleider started her career with just a scrappy demo tape and a dream of being Mick Jagger.
Since winning a prestigious Genie Award for her song River Blue and playing to more than 150 shows worldwide, 31-year-old Suzie is being tipped as a talent to look out for.
Growing up in Vancouver, Canada, Suzie had a mixed musical diet which undoubtedly influenced her style.
She became a fan of everything from soul legend Ella Fitzgerald to The Beatles and developed a soft spot for the gentle folk acts in her uncle and aunt's record collection.
On her most recent album, Oh Susanna, the singer conjures up images of tormented souls, such as 13-year-old runaways searching for a better life and the reaction of poverty-stricken black people to the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Her emotional voice and thoughtful song-writing has led to comparisons with Sinead O'Connor, Iris De Ment and Tom Waits.
