So we missed out. The league title will not be coming to Brighton, despite our tremendous efforts to beat the odds, beat our injuries and get the job done.

I admit I haven't watched the tape from that game in front of Sheffield's big home crowd yet, though I saw the highlights on Sky. I wanted to see if I could work out how we failed to score in those last two minutes.

It was suggested to me the misses looked worse on TV than they did at the time and I would agree with that, although I thought Ralph Blalock's shot at the end was a good one. He would have got that 99 times out of 100.

Our biggest concern now is trying to get the guys feeling a little better for this weekend's games and then the play-offs. Last night's result means we will be at home to London Towers if we get the one win we need to clinch second spot and that is a fixture we would savour.

We were banged up, as we say in the States, last weekend, though we tried to make light of it. Rico Alderson hurt his ankle late in the first half and made his own decision not to start the second half.

Errol Seaman had been out injured, Randy Duck and Ralph were getting back to fitness, Wil Johnson felt unwell and Sterling Davis hurt his ankle on Saturday. The only one who wasn't hurt was Mike Brown and he's 54 years old (only joking Mike).

Mike played well, but then they all played well. The best thing was our concentration. It was as good as we have been in a long time.

We watched some game film on the way up to Sheffield and talked about what we wanted to do. In fact, we had talked about preparing for Sheffield before we even played Milton Keynes the previous evening but no one other than me really wanted to do that.

That may have been because I was not actively involved in the MK game, which worked quite well as it turned out because it freed me up to look at Sheffield.

To be honest, I am surprised we have come as far as we have. Remember we are still a yung and new team and financially we are not where the clubs we are competing against are. If we had been healthy we would have run away with it, I am sure of that.

Winning silverware is now the business of this ball club and we have one more piece to go for in the play-offs.

We go to Birmingham on Saturday and entertain Scottish Rocks at the Brighton Centre on Sunday and we have got to make sure we get one win to finish second.

We will try and get in some rhythm this weekend, play a little better and get ready for the play-offs. That is a big deal for us. It is interesting you have got three teams who have won a prize each so far this season in Sheffield, Chester and ourselves.

Now let's see if any of them can make it a double in the play-offs. I suspect one of us will do it. I know the play-offs are one-off games and any one of eight sides can win them but I maintain the gap between the top three in the league and the rest is pretty big.

If we can get through the first round, which is a concern, there is a two-week lay-off. I like the fact that we have almost a month between the Sheffield game and the Championship weekend.

Hopefully we will then be healthy and, if we are healthy, nobody beats us.
