Two Sussex teams have reached national finals and are set to play on Premiership grounds.

The under-16s schools team, packed with Albion players, are in line for a date at the home of a top-flight club in the inter-counties competition.

Dorothy Stringer (Brighton and Hove) hope to play at Anfield in the individual schools.

Injury-hit Sussex beat Berkshire 3-0 in their semi-final at Bognor with goals from Nick Pritchard (Hazelwick, Crawley), Joe Keehan (Blatchington Mill, Brighton and Hove) and Chris Duffy (Thomas Peacock, Rye).

Pritchard headed the first from a free-kick ten minutes into the second half, Keehan added a solo effort and Duffy got the third late on.

Adam Mountford (Thomas Peacock) marshalled the back four and Dean Cox (Oathall, Haywards Heath) impressed on the wing.

Manager Iain Sallis, a teacher at Tideway (Newhaven), said: "We had Jake Robinson. Alhassan Kamara and Sam Rents out with injury but the guys who came in did well. In fact, Nick and Chris have been on the bench this season and Joe hadn't played before.

"The whole team did the county proud. We were destroyed in the first half. It was 0-0 but they were all over us. But we annihilated them after the interval after we had a few words with the boys.

"The kids are chuffed to bits and looking forward to playing at a Premiership ground."

Sussex aim to complete a national hat-trick against Shropshire next month, having won the under-16s competition in 1995 and 2000.

Dorothy Stringer defeated Woodchurch at Withdean and take on Liverpool school St Francis Xavier next month.

Jamie Brotherton and Dan Acquaye put the school two up at the interval and Jerahl Hughes added the third midway through the second half. Stringer are the first Brighton and Hove school to reach a national final.

Manager Andy Marchant said: "It is a fabulous achievement. One thousand schools were involved at the start and the boys have gone through nine rounds. The team loved playing on the pitch Albion use. The lads are very excited to, hopefully, be playing at Anfield."

Skipper Sam Gargan, an Albion centre of excellence player, said: "It is fantastic. We've got some good players like Jamie, who has had an Albion trial, and many from Withdean 2000. We've a good team spirit. I support Liverpool so it'd be good to play at Anfield."

Schools football in the county is bubbling.

Sussex under-19s bid to reach the South East region final against Suffolk at Framlington Town, near Ipswich, tomorrow (7pm).

Sussex under-14s face Hertfordshire in their final at St Albans on Monday.

Sussex Schools' administrator Alan Ball said: "We'd like to congratulate all the teams but it is being done on a shoestring. The county needs more support. The Sussex under-16s, for instance, deserve some sponsorship."

Dorothy Stringer under-14s lifted the Sussex Schools Cup with a 2-1 victory over Midhurst at Shoreham. Jamie Brotherton put them ahead with a penalty and Sonny Cobbs added the second.

Dorothy Stringer under-16s, national quarter-finalists, completed a double for the school when they overcame Imberhorne (East Grinstead) 4-1 in their final at Shoreham. Ryan McMillan, Aaron Gunn, Sam Doctors and Joe Brooker netted, James Upton scored Imberhorne's consolation goal.

Stringer were also finalists at under-15s, but lost 2-1 to Patcham High. Ross Flynn put them ahead but Wesley Fogden (penalty) and a Richard Brookes hit back for Patcham.

Patcham manager Darren Hambrook said: "To my knowledge this is the first Patcham High team in a county final."

Imberhorne pipped The Weald (Billingshurst) 1-0 in the Second X1 Cup final with an extra-time penalty from Adam Currier.

William Parker (Hastings) defeated Warden Park (Cuckfield) 3-1 in the under-12s final. Ben Radley, Matt Scott and Liam Upton scored for Parker and Joseph Hallam netted Park's consolation.

It was the second county cup final defeat for Warden Park, In recent under-13s finals, Cardinal Newman (Brighton and Hove) defeated Park 2-1 in the boys' competition while The Causeway (Eastbourne) secured the girls' trophy overcoming Downlands (Hassocks) by the same score.
