Ross Minter will have to prove himself without his normal vocal support when he takes on journeyman Keith Jones at Portsmouth tomorrow.

Crawley welterweight Minter is normally cheered on by more than 200 fans when he fights.

However, he has been given an allocation of just eight tomorrow as top of the bill Tony Oakey has taken most of the tickets for his own fans.

Jones, 35 next month, has more than 70 fights under his belt. Minter, who has a record of eight wins from nine contests, said: "I don't know much about him. He is a journeyman and it is another learning fight for me.

"Training has been going well and sparring has been good although I have had to stop sparring early because I have had a bad right hand. Hopefully, it will hold up all right."

Minter has been sparring with Southern Area challenger Brett James.

WEST Hill (Hastings) boxer Jason Brooker will have to produce his Sunday best for National Schoolboy ABA Championship glory.

The Hillcrest School pupil meets Michael Hadfield, of Headlead ABC, in the class 2, 33-36kg final at the Barnsley Metrodome on Sunday.

Dad Dean Brooker said: "Jason is quietly confident and has been training hard.

"He will go in there and see how the other lad boxes for the first 20 seconds, then work it out from there.

"It is all on the day but he won't freeze. A few lads get this far, get nervous and freeze when they get in there. Jason, with 18 bouts behind him, won't do that."
