While most people are still coming to terms with the huge council tax rises, with a large percentage going to Sussex Police, I was amazed (The Argus, March 20) the Force has just paid £850 each for 25 mountain bikes imported from the US at a total of £21,250.
Why? As a regular mountain biker, I know you do not need high-spec bikes with disc brakes to ride around the city.
And what's wrong with buying British? I'm all for visible policing but why such expense?
On a lighter note, since I contributed to their purchase, can I borrow one to do the London-to-Brighton bike ride?
