Worthing coach Ian Davies believes wins from their last two games will be enough to give his side the London Two South title.

A shock 27-10 defeat for Gosport and Fareham at Wimbledon on Saturday wrecked their plans to take over from Worthing in top spot.

Gosport no longer have a game in hand and are now 28 adrift of Worthing in the points difference column.

Worthing face a tough game at Andover next weekend and finish their season at home to fifth-placed Beckenham.

Gosport, however, have the tougher run-in, going to derby rivals Portsmouth and then hosting Tunbridge Wells.

Davies admitted Saturday's result was a surprise bonus.

He said: "After we beat Wimbledon the week before I did not expect Gosport to lose there.

"I thought the Portsmouth game could be the one where they slipped up.

"It's still very tight but if we win our last two games I believe we will win the league."

Worthing are also through to the Sussex Trophy semis after a 121-3 win at Crowborough on Sunday.

Davies praised a common sense display by referee Richard Phillips and was also pleased with some of his younger players.

He said: "We had seven under-20s playing for us and hooker Simon Alcott and centre Gareth Richards have certainly proved they could be a part of the future at Worthing."

Tries were scored by Terry Butler (4), Simon Swadling (4), Paul Todd (4), Alcott (2), Mark Adams, Steve Dove, Tom Monooigan, Richards and Adam Humphries.

Swadling goaled five of them to give him 30 points. Ben Coulson and Nick French added four conversions apiece.

Worthing host Haywards Heath in the semi on April 6. Chichester are already in the final, which will be played at Hove Rec on a date to be arranged.

Burgess Hill beat Shoreham 39-12 in a club match with tries from Scott Middleton, Jon Phillpot, David Irwin, Andy Miles, David Miles, Alex Smith and Justin Carrick.
