The Dedication Orchestra's appearance here was a testament to the South African musicians who inspired the UK jazz scene in the Sixties and Seventies.

The 25-piece orchestra was led in style by original Blue Notes drummer Louis Moholo.

The spirit of the Brotherhood of Breath big band was conjured up, with original members Evan Parker, Harry Beckett, Chris Biscoe, Marc Charig, Paul Rutherford and Malcolm Griffiths giving their all.

Performances of Miller Family Affair and Traumatic Experience and Pukwana's B My Dear and Now Is The Time were vivid reminders of their continuing influence.

It was a performance to treasure, but highlights included the playing of pianist Keith Tippett and double bassist Paul Rogers, Alan Tomlinson's trombone solo on Pukwana's Good News and Larry Stabbins and Ray Warleigh's saxes throughout.
