Eighties pop star David Van Day has been threatened with an early return to Sussex from his US-based reality TV show.
David and singing partner Thereze Bazar, performing as Dollar, were distraught after being nominated for eviction from ITV show Reborn In The USA on Saturday night.
Viewers will vote by phone over the coming week whether to keep them or Liverpudlian singer Sonia.
The show has given ten fallen pop idols the chance to resurrect their careers by performing in a series of shows across the United States.
Dollar were nominated for the boot by a New Orleans audience after singing They Can't Take That Away From Me.
David, who runs a fast food stall in Brighton city centre, said: "It's so sad. We've been together for a week now and it has been tremendous fun.
"Tonight was the first time we've performed in 14 years so for that to happen is upsetting. I hope this won't be the end of us so soon."
Thereze protested about the vote, saying: "The audience was 70 per cent male and even included a stag party. Anyone who arrived late couldn't vote.
"The onus on who won and who survived was down to about 50 people. That's not fair."
The winner of the eight-week series will be flown back to England on Concorde and given a contract with Universal Records.
