Singer Rupert Cobb subjected himself to a barrage of water, mud, rotten tomatoes and fish - but insisted it was worth it to make a record-breaking pop video.

Film-maker Rollo Hollins, 20, wanted to shoot the fastest ever video.

He had the idea of filming Rupert, 34 - vocalist with funk band Mezzerow - suffering for two minutes, then playing the footage in slow motion to accompany a four-minute song, What It Used To Be.

But that relied upon production crews managing to film the ambitious video in just one take at Littlehampton fire station.

The Fire Service National Benevolent Fund donated their fund-raising fire engine and offices for the day.

And to the great relief of Rollo, of Wilbury Grove, Hove, everything went just about according to plan.

He said: "I wanted to make it more than just a music video shoot and more of an event which people could enjoy being part of."

He filmed the whole experience after being encouraged to send supporting material to the Guinness Book of Records.

He said: "They do not have a record for fastest video yet but we will hear from them about whether we'll make it."

An estimated 22 bystanders helped pelt Rupert, who was left feeling very disoriented.

The singer, who lives near Lewes, said: "I don't remember half of it - it felt a bit like being in an accident. I have no memory of anything after the first thing hit me."
