Haywards Heath fielded just two of their team who won at Winchester the previous day, plus top try scorer Henry Goodburn, as they won 28-11 at Eastbourne.

Jamie O'Brien was outstanding at No. 10 for Heath as they overcame an 11-6 half-time deficit having played against the wind and slope in the opening 40 minutes.

James Walker, a centre of real promise, scored two tries. There were also scores for John Skoulding and Owen Ashton, who added a penalty.

Ashton started both weekend games, as did flanker Dave Wattam, who cannot get enough of playing rugby.

First team skipper Alex Meredith said: "We took Dave off with 20 minutes to go and he wasn't happy about it."

Eastbourne's priority is to end a nine-game losing run in London Three South East and escape relegation.

Coach Andre Groenen said: "That was our best performance for a long time. We have not been playing very well but our injuries are clearing up now."

Mark Ashworth scored the Eastbourne try with Ollie Cummings adding two penalties.

Groenen added: "Heath scored two late tries which distorted the scoreline a bit but our priorities are the game with Betteshanger on Saturday and then East Grinstead a couple of weeks later."

A try five minutes from time gave Crowborough their 21-19 win at Horsham. A try by skipper Mark Rosier plus three Keith Brooker penalties kept Crowborough in the game and Jon De Sampaio powered over for the clincher with Brooker converting.

Adam Harman scored the Horsham try with Tom Wright converting and kicking four penalties.

Flanker Phil Jennings scored five tries as Pulborough thrashed Hellingly 70-0 in a re-arranged Sussex One match. Scrum half Jonny Scrase added two.

Norfolk Arms beat Sussex Police 49-14 in Sussex Two.
