Voice of The Argus (February 15) rightly pointed out Piers Gough's plan for a 16-storey tower on the Endeavour site, in Brighton, has already attracted predictable opposition.

At a well-attended protest meeting (standing room only) recently at a Methodist Church in Stanford Avenue, near the site, it was quite clear about 95 per cent of those present - mainly residents of the area - were very much against the scheme.

Indeed, there was a feeling of anger and frustration their voices would not be heard. They were unanimous in agreeing that never has such an unsuitable building been designed for such a site.

How can The Voice possibly state there is not a more suitable site? Was a reporter at the protest meeting? If so, why not take into account the feelings and wishes of the people?

We all know Councillor Chris Morley is in favour of the scheme, in spite of being at the meeting, and it was made clear to him his was almost a lone voice.

Coun Morley is obviously quite happy to foist a skyscraper on residents who are wholeheartedly against the proposal. Am I being naive when I say I thought councillors were elected by the people to represent them and not pursue their own personal likes or dislikes?

If the plan were to be passed by the planning committee, it would be a travesty of justice. Whatever the merits or demerits of the tower may be, the Endeavour site is most unsuitable.
