People who care for those who have suffered severe head injuries sometimes feel they are doing it all on their own.

It can be tremendously demanding to act as nurse, carer, driver and minder even when the patient is a much-loved relative.

But help has been at hand for many families during the last decade at a thriving and active centre in Mid Sussex.

Thanks to the devotion of people such as Ann Cummings, whose son Ian was badly injured in a car crash, there is excellent support for people who were in her position.

Now staff at the Headway Hurstwood Park Rehabilitation Centre are appealing for £500,000 to make much-needed improvements.

Next week is Brain Injury Awareness Week and it couldn't be a better time for people to give generously to the appeal.
