For the past two years, The Argus has reported on my support for local post offices. It's a pity Andrew Garrood ("Toothless dog", Letters, February 1) missed those stories.

The government finance he refers to also provides new investment for local post offices.

But, in a speech in Parliament on October 15, last year, I pointed out it is Post Office Ltd that has made it hard for sub-postmasters to plan for the future, especially by forbidding them from promoting the Post Office's own new cash-across-the-counter card scheme for customers without bank accounts.

Through an Early Day Motion in Parliament, 93 of us so far - across the parties - are calling on Post Office Ltd to change its policy and back the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters.
