Albion boss Steve Coppell is set to swoop for versatile Icelandic international Ivar Ingimarsson.

He will try to land the Wolves utility player on a month's loan on Monday.

Coppell wanted Ingimarsson last month, but the deal was put on hold because Wolves would not allow him to play against them for the Seagulls at Withdean this Saturday.

Ingimarsson, who can operate in the centre of midfield or defence, is well-known to Coppell.

The 25-year-old was Brentford's ever-present player of the year last season, when Coppell steered them into the Second Division play-offs, and scored in both of the Bees' wins against Albion.

Ingimarsson featured in Albion's 1-1 draw at Molineux in November, but that is one of only 12 starts he has made for Wolves in all competitions since moving to them in the summer.

His opportunities have been restricted following the return to fitness of Colin Cameron and the arrival of Paul Ince.

Coppell is likely to use Ingimarsson first and foremost in the centre of the park after Steve Sidwell's recent move to Reading.

The Reykjavik-born player first came to England in October 1999, joining Torquay on loan from IBV Vestmannaeyjar.

Brentford paid £150,000 for him a month later when Ron Noades was in charge at Griffin Park.
