Haywards Heath produced their best performance of the season to crush Canterbury 53-0 and maintain their push for honours in London One.

Heath's forwards ran riot, scoring all eight tries as they maintained the pressure on leaders Southend who remain two points clear at the top after their win over Winchester.

Skipper Alex Meredith said: "This was our best performance of the season. Conditions weren't easy but the handling and continuity was excellent.

"We must keep up this standard for the rest of the season."

Dave Wattam's first-half brace was reward for a combative individual performance and Nick Killick also crossed before the interval.

In the past Heath have been guilty of easing up in the second half, but not this time. They ran in five tries with veteran Killick completing his hat-trick.

The show of forward strength was completed with tries from Nick Dinsdale and young hooker Tom Gribble, who gave another impressive performance after coming off the bench, while Stuart Charnley crossed for the final try and also added 13 points with the boot.
