Why did Paul Lloyd's account of his treatment for kidney cancer (The Argus, December 3) make it seem as if having the operation was the end of the world?

He states you are in hospital for three weeks and never fully recover. This is a frightening prospect for anyone waiting to go into hospital.

I had the operation in February. I was in only eight days and out of bed after three, walking the wards.

I was told to take it easy for up to three months after the operation. I did not feel much pain, only soreness. I am very happy to say I have no ill-effects except a big scar, which is slowly disappearing. I am nearly 70 but I could do a full day's work.

Since my operation, I have had a full course of radium treatment for prostrate cancer, 27 visits to Sussex County Hospital.

I have since been given the all-clear on both counts.

I am most grateful to Mr Beard and the doctors and nurses of Castle ward, Worthing Hospital, and Dr Bloomfield and staff at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
