Brighton's West Pier has had its Lottery grant for a long time.

To rebuild the pier to its former grandeur would take so much finance the project would be uneconomic.

The answer is for the pier to be restored as far as the cafe, half-way along, which would then be used as a multi-purpose venue for music shows of various kinds (jazz, big band, pop) and for dancing, both strict tempo and modern.

The remainder of the pier should be demolished and a concrete semi-circular structure added to the end of the new, shortened pier for fishing and use as a landing stage for speedboats in the summer.

By taking up this option, the cost would be reduced by 66 per cent.

Why not get things in motion, bringing about an added attraction to the seafront, especially when so close to the major hotels in the city? The pier has been an eyesore for long enough.
