Two of Albion's fringe men reminded Steve Coppell of their talents in the reserves at Cheltenham yesterday.
Daniel Marney scored twice in the space of a minute early on, both of them created by John Piercy, in a comfortable 2-0 victory for Dean White's side at Whaddon Road.
Marney volleyed in Piercy's left-wing cross at the far post after 14 minutes.
The young frontrunner then capitalised almost immediately on another Piercy cross which caused confusion between Cheltenham goalkeeper Shane Higgs and trialist Brett Poote from Southampton.
David Lee could have stretched the lead on the hour but he missed the target when one-on-one with Higgs from a Daniel Webb header.
Adam Hinshelwood made his comeback from a dislocated shoulder at the heart of a defence which also included the experienced Guy Buttters and club captain Paul Rogers.
Albion: Packham; Rogers, Butters, Hinshelwood, Harding, Lee, Hammond, Piercy, Marney, Webb, McPhee. Subs: Beck, Greatwich for Piercy 88, Bartholomew for Lee 89.
