BHASVIC school is celebrating after two pupils won medals at the British National Tae Kwon-Do Championships.

Daniel Iliskovic took gold in the middleweight category and Rob Lewis won bronze in the lightweight division at the championships in Kettering.

Iliskovic's achievement is particularly impressive because he only arrived in England from Croatia four years ago and was barely able to speak a word of English.

However, the third year student successfully completed a language course at the school and now hopes to compete for England in the World Championships next year.

Iliskovic is studying PE, travel and tourism at A Level, plus business AS level and English IELTS.

His teacher, Lyn Smart, said: "We are delighted Daniel has won a top award for Tae Kwon-Do in Britain and we wish him well for the future.

"What he has done in a short space of time is remarkable and an example to all our students of what can be achieved if you put your mind to it."

Lewis, a first year student, has been involved with the sport for ten years and is studying geography, media, photography and law at AS level at the Brighton-based sixth form college.
