Albion's youngsters suffered an unfortunate 2-1 FA Youth Cup defeat at Bognor last night, losing to a Wimbledon side who scored with two of their three shots on target.

The Seagulls' young squad included only two second-year scholars - captain Adam El-Abd and striker Mark Windsor.

Centre of Excellence prospect Jake Robinson, 16, partnered Windsor upfront after scoring five times in the last two under-17 matches.

There was also a starting place for central defender Adam Mountford, 15, with four other 15-year-olds on the bench.

The Dons went ahead with a goal out of nothing after 16 minutes, a speculative cross coming back off the bar for Jerome Boyce to drill a low ten-yard shot past Chris May.

Ben Harding became the first of three Dons players booked in the first half as he brought down El-Abd 25 yards from goal.

Chris Breach shot just over at the far post from the resulting free-kick, a well-worked training ground routine involving Ben Watson and Ben Fillery.

Robinson got away from his marker but headed just wide from Matt Piper's cross and almost embarrassed David Martin, son of former West Ham defender Alvin, when the Dons keeper dwelt on the ball too long.

Seconds after the break, El-Abd released Robinson who beat a defender for pace and crossed from the byline ten yards from goal.

This sparked a goalmouth scramble in which Breach was foiled by a last ditch challenge.

Albion levelled after 82 minutes. Breach's through ball put Watson clear and the one-time Wimbledon target was brought down by keeper Martin.

Windsor converted from the spot, but Albion suffered heartbreak two minutes later as sub Serge Makofo scored on the break.

Albion: C. May; Piper, Fillery, El-Abd, Elphick, Mountford, Watson, Breach, Windsor, Robinson, Probert (Taylor 59). Unused subs: Callaghan, Martin, Cox, Rents.
